Workers for Mexico Mission is an outgrowth from and a partnership with Clinton Looney, missionary to Mexico for the past 46 years. The Looneys, over the years, have helped establish congregations and supported native Mexican preachers in these congregations. In addition, the radio and correspondence course programs have reached thousands in Spanish-speaking lands. The mission also includes various benevolent efforts--student homes, deaf ministry, childrens day care, feeding centers for children, clinics and other outreach efforts to the needy. The work includes camps, preacher training, correspondence courses, and the support of the Bible Institute at Queretaro.
In 1996, Bro. Looney, seeking to assure that the work would continue in the years ahead, began turning many mission functions over to Mexican leaders in three key cities and asked Francis Nash with his wife, Pam, to serve as stateside director and forwarding agents. Nash is general manager of WGOH-WUGO radio and TV-14 in Grayson, Ky. He serves as volunteer minister of the Sugar Grove Christian Church, Owingsville, Ky., a major supporter for the mission and works under the auspices of that eldership. Workers for Mexico is a IRS recognized non-profit 501c3 tax-exempt corporation. Church elders are; Tom Oldfield, Mike Gabbard, Mike McGuire and Richard Willoughby and Scott Bliffen. Mission Committee members serve as the Local Board for the mission. Tom Oldfield, Dora Payne, Denise McGuire, Secy. Mike McGuire, Chmn. Paul Mullins, Brian Carter, Cindy Bliffen, and Cecilia Reyna. Francis and Pam Nash serve Workers for Mexico Mission, out of the Grayson office- Box 400 Grayson, Ky. 41143 (toll-free 866-474-6274)
Bro. Looney and his wife, Alicia, continue to work hard
daily in preaching in Mexico, expanding to new areas, overseeing construction
work and short-term mission teams, and assisting evangelists in various
areas of Mexico.
He is supported by churches and individuals through forwarding
agent, Mary Cook of the Vansant, Va. Church of Christ. The Mexico
Advisory Board is made up of ministers who serve as evangelists at congregations
and work in various capacities in their respective cities. They also
assist in the planning and administration of the mission outreach in their
areas. The current Mexico Board is made up of Felciano "Chano" Medrano,
Monterrey; Jesus "Chuy" Menchaca, Nuevo Laredo; and Mario Luna, Rio Bravo;
Gerardo Dominquez, Matamoros; Miguel Ayala, Monclova; Filemon
Castro, Sandia, Daniel de la Cruz, Matamoros, assists the Board in
several capacities and also serves on the board of the Instituto Biblico
Nacional which is supported by the mission. Lou Horner, Ken Keene,
and Steve Treap, supporters, serve in advisory capacity with work teams.
In addition, Rich Lemal of ROC mission and Mike Watson of Faith in
Works mission, coordinate short-term work teams that assist the mission
work.
In addition, Workers for Mexico handles funds and helps coordinate the work of the Con Mis Manos, Ministry to Deaf Children in Matamoros where Michelle Peek and Chuy Zuniga serve as missionaries, and the Border Mission work among families, women and children of Tony and Kelley Crumbley, missionaries in Matamoros.
Workers for Mexico Mission is supported by various churches and individuals with all the money going directly to the Mexican ministers, their work and the various programs or the designated ministries or missionaries. There is no paid office staff, no one in the U.S.receives any money at all from the mission. Each gift helps support over thirty-five national families who are working in various capacities in the twenty cities of Mexico, where the mission work is active. Salaries for preachers, teachers and workers are supplemented by the mission. Workers for Mexico also works in constructing homes, parsonages, and church buildings, and providing other materials needed to evangelize and then sustain the ministries.
Mexico is a country of 110 million people seeking to know God. Workers for Mexico presents the simple gospel of the New Testament Scripture and strives to serve with compassion as Jesus would, to also help children and the needy, in a country that struggles economically. All of the churches and works are located among the poorer colonies in towns and cities.
Each supporter has input on where the money may be spent to sponsor a particular family, ministry or effort. Each supporter receives receipts, full financial reports, monthly updates, and quarterly newsletter, The Mexico Messenger. Also, regular e-mail updates are available upon request and the website is updated regularly www.workersformexico.org.
Workers for Mexico Mission is a non-denominational
effort. Each church in Mexico is simply - Iglesia de Cristo, a Church of
Christ. All gifts are tax-deductible.
